Is Fugu18 Jailbreak for iOS 18.0 – 18.4 Legit?

There is a brand new tool circulating mostly on GitHub lately. It’s called Fugu18 Jailbreak and it claims to be a jailbreak tool for iOS 17.0 – iOS 18.4 for all devices, including iPhone 16, iPhone 15, and older.

Fugu itself is a legitimate jailbreak and Fugu14 as well as Fugu15 are both open-source on GitHub. The tools were developed by Linus Henze, a very talented security researcher. Several jailbreak tools we use these days are direct forks of Fugu with some extra stuff for tweak injection where Fugu is notably lacking.

Jailbreaking iOS 18.0 – iOS 18.4 is currently possible with PaleRa1n jailbreak for iOS 18 thanks to the checkm8 exploit on pre-A12 devices, however, no jailbreak is available for the newer devices so seeing a tool that claims blanket support for all iOS 18 versions on all devices does seem sketchy.

So is Fugu18 Jailbreak for iOS 18.0 – 18.4 Legit?

I’ve been in this community for more than a decade. I’ve seen so many fake jailbreak tools it’s frightening. Unfortunately, it appears that is also the case with Fugu18.

Looking over the source code on GitHub reveals easily that the files are indeed those of a jailbreak but it’s just Fugu15 renamed.

Fugu18 is just Fugu15 renamed

Digging a bit deeper it appears that several such GitHub repositories exist with Fugu17 or Fugu18 in the name.

All of which just cloned Linus Henze’s Fugu15 project and renamed the files. Linus’ project is indeed legitimate but the README file has been heavily altered to make it look like newer iOS versions and devices are supported when they are, in fact, not.

Fugu15 is a semi-untethered permasigned jailbreak for iOS 15. Fugu18 is a ridiculously bad SCAM that takes advantage of GitHub’s high ranking in search to create piggyback links for scam sites like Pangu8 (fake Pangu jailbreak website).

Fugu18 jailbreak claims to support iOS 18.0 - 18.4.1 (a version that doesn't even exist at the time I am writing this).

Notably, they all change the README.MD file to include fake iOS versions support (iOS 18.3, etc.) but also a fake download link that goes to one of the many fake jailbreak news websites such as Senumy, Silzee, Pangu8, Cydia2, etc.

The README also contains information about how to install Fugu18 jailbreak directly from Safari or via USB. While these steps are indeed correct and legitimate for jailbreaking with Fugu, they don’t apply to iOS 18 because there is no iOS 18 Fugu to begin with.

These are leftover instructions from the real Fugu14 and Fugu15 jailbreaks. The scammers likely left it in there to make it appear legitimate.

Installing the IPA (if it even compiles anymore) just results in Fugu15, which is unsupported on anything newer than iOS 15.4.1 on A12+ devices.

So where to find legit jailbreak tools?

Not to toot my own horn, but I keep one of the most up-to-date pages on the internet with the latest iOS jailbreak tools for all devices and iOS versions over here.

If a tool is not here and it claims to work with iOS 17 or iOS 18.4, it’s very likely fake.

There are hundreds of scam iOS jailbreak websites these days and as the sun starts to set upon jailbreaking with fewer and fewer and far between tools being released, you will see more and more scams being made.

Getting informed from the right source remains paramount.
