The PaleRa1n jailbreak for arm64 devices has been updated today to version 2.0.0 Beta 9 which brings several new fixes and improvements to the otherwise very powerful jailbreak.

Amongst the major changes, this update fixes properly an issue causing App Store apps to crash on iOS 17. Aside from that, beta 9 brings new functionality to download packages within the online configuration and Improved initproc handling.

Aside from these highlighted changes, the new PaleRa1n jailbreak update also brings a fix for platform patch on iOS 16+, as well as Improved logic for safemode and reboot.

Why does PaleRa1n jailbreak support iOS 17.0 – 17.4?

Since PaleRa1n is based on the very powerful, unpatchable checkm8 BootROM exploit, Apple can’t really do much about it.

A BootROM exploit cannot be patched in software without issuing new devices because the code is burned into the chip itself forever.

Such a vulnerability is devastating for Apple as they can’t do anything about it, but very beneficial for jailbreak users as jailbreaks based on it can simply be easily updated once a new iOS version is out.

Yes, occasionally even PaleRa1n breaks because of various system-wide changes in new iOS versions, but since we have a BootROM exploit, nothing Apple adds is any serious issue as we can literally boot a custom patched kernel if we want to.

This is the reason why PaleRa1n jailbreak was released for iOS 15 but still supports even iOS 17.4 on arm64 devices. The catch is that arm64 devices are quite old by now. On the phone side, we’re talking iPhone X and iPhone 8 which don’t even have iOS 17 support.

For iPads, modern iPads such as iPad 6th and 7th generation that still run iPadOS 17 are supported thanks to the A10 chip in those.
