If you want to jailbreak iOS 17, you probably know how powerful a jailbreak can be. Ever since the first iPhone was invented, developers in the community tried to create jailbreak tools to allow customizations on the device.
Historically most of the features you enjoy today on stock iOS were born on jailbreak tweaks before Apple took them and integrated them into the iOS operating system proper.
Over the years there have been hundreds of jailbreak tools for various versions, but there have been maybe as many scam jailbreaks, so be aware of what you install and from where. At iDevice Central we only provide the real jailbreak tools!
Can you Jailbreak iOS 17 today?
Technically, yes! You can jailbreak iOS 17 today thanks to the research done by the PaleRa1n team. While their iOS 17 jailbreak isn’t fully available yet, and to be more technically correct it is actually an iPadOS 17 jailbreak, they still did succeed in jailbreak 17.
Of course, PaleRa1n uses the checkm8 BootROM exploit which is tremendously powerful, but it comes with a major caveat: it only supports devices that have the A11 chip or lower. This means iPhone X and older devices are all supported.
The PaleRa1n team just announced that the PaleRa1n Jailbreak is not yet compatible with iOS 17 Beta 4 that was released today. If you want to jailbreak iPadOS 17, stay below Beta 4 for now.
Can you jailbreak iOS 17 on newer devices like iPhone 14?
Jailbreaking on newer iOS devices is far more complicated than jailbreaking older iOS versions. Apple introduced new security mitigations with each major iOS release, making jailbreaking harder.
Even so, jailbreaking is not impossible, even on newer devices. Recently developer @opa334 released Dopamine Jailbreak which supports all modern iOS devices, such as iPhone 14, iPhone 13, iPhone 11, etc. It even supports M1 chip devices. However, this jailbreak was for iOS 15.0 – 15.4.1. Still, pretty impressive.
Currently, we do have a kernel exploit released for iOS 17, at least for iOS 17.0. The kernel vulnerability can be combined with a PPL bypass to create a jailbreak, according to @opa334. iOS 17.0 also patches what appears to be a PPL bypass so do not update past iOS 16.7!
Currently, there is no publicly released jailbreak tool for iOS 17 on A12+ devices, but I recommend you stay on iOS 17.0 if you want to jailbreak sooner, at least for now.
Once a real iOS 17.0 jailbreak gets released we will link it here and on our Jailbreak Downloads page which contains all jailbreak solutions currently released.
Analyzing iOS 17 Jailbreak tools available online
In this section, we’re going to analyze some of the iOS 17 Jailbreak tools/downloads currently circulating online, and we’re going to see if they are legit or fake.
1. Sileem Repo Extractor Jailbreak
Sileem Jailbreak
- Multiple fake Unc0ver, CheckRa1n, and Taurine jailbreak links on the Sileem website indicate keyword stuffing.
- Claims to support iOS 16 to iOS 16.6 including iOS 17 beta. Not the case as there’s no PPL bypass.
- Claims to come with Cydia Package Manager. This is not possible because Cydia has been broken beyond repair since iOS 15.
- Claims to be a No PC Jailbreak. This isn’t the case as there is no powerful enough exploit chain that involves a WebKit exploit on iOS 17, not even on iOS 16.2 and newer for that matter.
I first learned about this jailbreak utility from Silzee’s website when it was featured as a possible jailbreak utility for iOS 17, however, it’s obvious that the jailbreak is fake and the website is likely a cash grab for AD money.
VERDICT: FAKE / SCAM
2. Checkrain Mirror Jailbreak
CheckRa1n Mirror Jailbreak
- Provided by the Pangu8 website, a known scammer making fake jailbreak tools under the name of a real jailbreak team from back in the days, Pangu Team.
- Claims to support iOS 16 to iOS 16.6 including iOS 17 beta. Not the case as there’s no PPL bypass.
- Shows an application with the CheckRa1n logo running on mobile and claims to be a NO PC jailbreak. This is not possible as CheckRa1n is based on a USB-based BootROM exploit. It simply cannot run on the phone alone, it needs a PC.
- Claims to support iPhone 14, and A12+ devices in general. This is not possible because CheckRa1n’s exploit was patched in the A12 chip. The real CheckRa1n works only on iPhone X and older.
I’ve spotted this jailbreak ranking pretty high in Google Search, mostly because it abuses the lack of a real jailbreak for these versions to perform keyword stuffing.
The jailbreak is, however, a fake, and the checkra1n jailbreak while real, is actually provided by the checkra.in website and it does not support iOS 15 and newer. It’s also a semi-tethered jailbreak so it will never work without a PC or a support device.
VERDICT: FAKE / SCAM
3. Corellium X Jailbreak
A little bit more analysis is required for this one. The Corellium company is real, they do provide iOS virtualization, they have an amazing tool that allows you to virtualize any iOS version and even jailbreak it so that you can test code or anything you need to test.
With that being said, let’s see how Corellium X Jailbreak fares.
Corellium X Jailbreak
- Corellium does provide virtualized iOS with jailbreak options for all iOS versions, but they are not jailbreaks for real iPhones, only for their virtual on-screen iOS device.
- Corellium X Jailbreak is not a real product from Corellium. They do not release jailbreaks outside of their virtual iOS environment.
- The screenshots for this jailbreak show an application running on a real iPhone. That wouldn’t be possible at first because Corellium is only providing virtual iOS devices in the browser, and second because Corellium’s jailbreak is already applied to the virtual iOS once the installation is complete. No need for a jailbreak app as they control what security features run on their virtual iOS.
While Corellium is a real company providing virtual iOS test devices with the option to jailbreak the latest iOS version, those devices are not real, they are in-browser and they cost a crap ton of money per month.
Corellium is a tool for security researchers, pen testers, and alike. Definitely not a jailbreak tool and certainly not working on real iOS devices either.
VERDICT: FAKE / SCAM
4. Zeon Jailbreak
I never heard of this jailbreak tool before, and I first spotted this one on Silzee’s website, so let’s take a look.
Zeon Jailbreak
- Very similar in both design and icons to Sileem which is a proven fake jailbreak. It appears it was made by the same people. Not a good start.
- Upon trying to install this on my test device I was brought to a fake survey page asking me to download 3 games from the App Store and play them for 15 minutes to get my jailbreak. This is a dead giveaway that the jailbreak is fake. This kind of ad has been used since iOS 8 in fake jailbreaks.
- The jailbreak claims to be a No-Computer tool. There’s is no exploit chain powerful enough for iOS 15.5 and newer for such jailbreak to be made.
- Claims to be able to extract repos and install the tweaks inside. Installing the tweaks requires dpkg, apt, etc. These don’t run as mobile and certainly not without a sandbox escape which is not available currently for the versions they claim to support.
Unfortunately, the Zeon Jailbreak for iOS 17 appears to be yet another fake / scam jailbreak developed by the same people behind the fake Sileem Jailbreak.
Aside from that it is also ad-infested and provides no utility.
5. Unc0ver Black Jailbreak
This appears to be a poor attempt to use the Unc0ver Jailbreak’s name and trick people into thinking it works on iOS 15, iOS 16, and iOS 17. Websites like Pangu8, Silzee, and Cowabunga-Lite are full of these fakes which makes me think the same people are behind them all, or they just straight up copy each other.
It’s the same old idea of a fake HTML + CSS UI that kinda resembles Unc0ver (but not really), and it asks you to click on Ads if you wanna “jailbreak”.
It’s pointless to say this is a fake.
Unc0ver Black Jailbreak
- Very similar in both design and icons to all the other browser-based fake jailbreaks. It appears it was made by the same people. Not a good start.
- Upon trying to install this on my test device I was brought to a fake survey page asking me to download 1 app from the App Store and open it for 25 minutes to get my jailbreak. This is a dead giveaway that the jailbreak is fake. This kind of ad has been used since iOS 8 in fake jailbreaks.
- The jailbreak claims to be a No-Computer tool. There’s no exploit chain powerful enough for iOS 15.5 and newer for such a jailbreak.
- Claims to be able to extract repos and install the tweaks inside. Installing the tweaks requires dpkg, apt, etc. These don’t run as mobile and certainly not without a sandbox escape which is not available currently for the versions they claim to support.
Unfortunately, the Unc0ver Black Jailbreak for iOS 17 appears to be yet another fake / scam jailbreak developed by the same people behind the fake Sileem, Zeon and Corellium X Jailbreak.
Aside from that it is also ad-infested and provides no utility.
Do note that it appears the same people are behind fake jailbreak tools like:
- HackSn0w
- Fugu17 Jailbreak
- Pikzo Jailbreak
- Cripzi Jailbreak
- Tig Xingo Jailbreak
- Reposi Jailbreak
- Dopeem Repo Extractor Tool
- HacksNow Jailbreak Tool
All of these are fake jailbreaks using roughly the same scheme, generating ad money with a fake app.
VERDICT: FAKE / SCAM
